Destination Asia

The Emerson Global Life Sciences Team recently visited Bejing, China in an effort to mobilize our Asia Pacific organization for “Destination Asia.” The trip was designed to identify product gaps and barriers, to capitalize on our leadership in the Asia Pacific region, and to attend the 15th annual China-Pharm Pharmaceutical Industry Exhibition held at the China National Convention Center in Bejing.

Prior to the exhibition, Emerson Process Management Division representatives prepared update presentations on Emerson’s products and services Life Sciences roadmap. Product and service gaps were identified with plans for closing them. The presentations were pointed at the specific needs of the Life Science industry and its emerging trends including generics, OEMs and other areas. The primary focus was centered on the business value (i.e. savings and benefits) derived by specific Asia pacific customers.

The China-Pharm exhibition targets a wide variety of product groups including API, Secondary, Process Control Systems, Cleaning technology and equipment, and Packaging, among others. Approximately 400 exhibitors from over 20 countries participated including Emerson. An estimated 18,000 visitors attended the event including domestic and MNC manufacturers, academia, and a host of Agency and government officials. Shenling Yang, Life Sciences Business Leader in Asia Pacific did a great job coordinating our efforts with a number of meetings we had with the SFDA in China. Emerson country managers and executives participated in an Emerson Life Sciences seminar hosted by Vice President and General Manager, SweeChee Lee. SweeChee provided an introduction and overview of Emerson China. Saroj Patnaik presented ideas around the topic of reducing risk for export while Dr. Ali Afnan articulated some of the science related issues that offer opportunities for Process Analytical Technology solutions. David Liu, from our Regulator Technologies division wrapped up the day with a presentation about building up a modern biotech facility in China by leveraging DeltaV Batch Control Systems. Overall, the reponse from seminar participants was very well received.

The team (shown below) had a blast . . . especially during a special tour of the Forbiden City and Great Wall. We are looking forward to continuing to create focus and deliver results in the Asia Pacific region.
